5 Ways To Keep Your Wedding Diet On Track During The Holiday Season

It's that time of the year again. That time of year when holiday dinners, office parties and seasonal events overtake your calendar.

The candy trays and holiday goodie-filled baskets are delivered to your office every afternoon.

Holiday shopping in the stores leaves you famished and low on energy for your workouts.

But your big event is approaching and you can't allow the holidays to interfere with your wedding diet and workout regimen!

You have come too far to throw in the towel so follow these simple tips for enjoying the holidays while staying on track with your health and fitness routine:

1. Do not skip meals.

It may seem like a good idea to skip a meal or two in favor of eating at a holiday event but this approach will actually backfire on you. Skipping meals and not eating enough throughout the day will not only slow your metabolism but will leave you so hungry that you overeat at the party and make poor choices out of desperation.

Instead, eat your normal meals, filling your plate with lots of fruits and vegetables and always have a snack right before attending an event, which leads up to our second piece of advice...

2. Do not arrive at any party hungry.

Of course you want to enjoy the food provided at the party but arriving too hungry will lead to overindulging and poor choices. Instead, have a small meal before you leave your house (think veggies and healthy fats for satisfaction) so that you aren't ravenous when you arrive at the event.

3. Remember to drink water.

Sometimes we confuse hunger with thirst so always remembering to stay hydrated can curb our appetites and keep us from overeating.

Staying hydrated is also great for our skin during the winter months which can easily become dry, chapped and dull in the cold weather.

4. Make time for meal planning.

Even though you have a holiday party thrown into your work week, do not skip your meal planning altogether! Keep up with your grocery shopping, think ahead about the ingredients you need in advance for easy weeknight meals so that healthy foods are readily available to you.

5. Be Mindful.

It is the holiday season which of course involves some of your favorite foods! Allow yourself to indulge with a slice of cake, a favorite cookie and seasonal cocktail but skip the foods that really don't appeal to you.

Just because the food is available, doesn't mean you have to eat it! If you don't love the appetizers at a party, skip them. If you don't adore the type of cake being served, skip it! It's not worth eating it if you don't truly enjoy it. Save the indulgences for your favorites.
